Enter the deer exclosure fence and hike to the waterfalls found along the green trail here in the Apshawa Preserve. Features include five miles of trails, the Butler Reservoir, a dam, scenic overlooks and the ruins of an old water purification system. You won't encounter much traffic on the trails of the this nature preserve. Use caution as black bears have been sighted.
Bear Swamp Brook Falls
This waterfall can be found in the Ramapo Valley County Reservation. Cross the wooden bridge and continue past Scarlet Oak Pond bearing left to follow the yellow trail on a rocky climb to the falls. In addition to the falls, you can also see several ruins including the L.B Darling mansion, the Hawk Rock viewpoint and the MacMillan Reservoir. A very popular park.
Hidden from view, steps away from downtown Boonton, is a spectacular waterfall that once powered the Iron Company along the Rockaway River. Walk through Grace Lord Park and continue past the pool of water flowing over a dam. Follow the short trail and on the right side you will find the Boonton Falls tumbling down a steep gorge. Carefully climb the many rock formations to get up close views and delight in the spray of the water.
This tall and narrow waterfall is the tallest in the state, cascading down 85 feet of the Kittatinny Ridge. It is found just steps from the unpaved and bumpy road which is closed during the winter months. Climb the steep staircase that leads to two wooden viewing platforms. At the top you can follow the Buttermilk Falls Blue Trail upstream for about 1.5 miles where it connects with the Appalachian Trail.
There are a series of lovely waterfalls nestled in Norvin Green State Forest. Park in the Otter Hole lot and follow the blue-blazed trail. A short hike will lead you to Otter Hole Falls. Climb across the rocks to continue. Stay on this trail to the white-blazed trail following that downstream to Chikahoki Falls. On the opposite end of the forest the Wyanokie Falls is tucked away and can be a challenge to find. A variety of rugged hikes are offered here including an outstanding view at Wyanokie High Point.
Dunnfield Creek Falls
A picturesque hemlock filled ravine is the setting for this waterfall located in Worthington State Forest. Take the white-blazed Appalachian Trail and follow the creek for a short hike to the falls. Numerous small cascades can be seen along the way. Combine this with a loop hike to the top of Tammany Mountain or take the trail to Sunfish Pond, a natural glacial lake.
Great Falls of the Paterson
This National Historic Landmark is one of largest waterfalls in country. Forming at the end of the last ice age, these iconic falls are a must see and a sight to behold. They are located in Historic District of Paterson. Learn more about the Great Falls at the visitor center open daily from 10am-430pm. The Falls can be viewed from a short walk to Overlook Park or the Ellen Kramer Park. No fee is charged.
Enter the South Mountain Reservation, and take the Lenape Trail to Hemlock Falls. A steep stone staircase will take you to the top of the falls for a breathtaking view. In addition to hiking trails, this popular park boasts a wildflower sculpture park, a Fairy Trail, scenic overlooks and a dog park.

This Italian restaurant is located on the Asbury Park boardwalk across the street from the famous Stone Pony. Stella Marina has 3 levels for dining. Eat at a table right on the Boardwalk, sit inside in a casual dining room or sit on the rooftop with amazing ocean views. Indulge in the popular Pizza Figi, or try an entree like Cavatelli, Chicken Scarpariello, Veal Nonna and Swordfish.
